Use Flowing Washes For Looseness and Control
This One Evening Workshop is all about loosening up your painting. We’ll work with bright color and wet washes, letting the medium do it’s thing.
Loose and fluid mingling of color right on the paper is a unique and beautiful quality of watercolor. This workshop will show how to use it with confidence and control.
Before class, watch and practice the techniques in the three tutorials listed below. These will help you get a good start.
In class, we’ll warm up with a quick evening landscape scene and then work on our impressionistic street scene. do two painting projects. Download the drawing layout (below) and copy onto watercolor paper.
We’ll be trying to create a strong value composition in our finished painting using the Value Composition Sketch below.
Here’s what you’ll need for this workshop:
Brushes: We’ll be using mostly flat brushes. Have a 1″ or 3/4″ wide flat as well as a 1/2″ or 1/4″ flat. A small round brush will be helpful for the finishing touches.
Paper: The best choice for Watercolor Paper, and especially for these techniques is Arches 140lb Cold Press. It will help you manage the fluid washed we’ll be working with.
Paint: Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue
