  • Adapt Subject To Picture Plane
  • Let The Composition Guide The Painting
  • Push The Medium To Its Limits

About This Lesson

Many will find this a challenging lesson!  You’ll approach this painting from a different approach, starting with a unique approach to composition.

Most of us are in the habit of letting the subject lead the way – we find a scene on location or in a photo reference, pull out the watercolor paper, draw the subject and start painting. This can work but limits our creativity and completely stifles your own vision.

The method that opens creativity and allows ones own vision to shine starts with composition. This lesson does just that.

Learn how to start with a blank picture plane, apply a unique method to divide the picture plane informally, and use this informal division to place the subject and its shapes.

The lesson includes two sections : the composition method from blank page to color study, the painting itself.
