An Easy Way To Check Value In Your Paintings
The Solution Is Right In Your Hand!
One of the best things to do to insure that you end up with powerful and dynamic paintings is to start by using thumbnail sketches. Often, the success of the final painting depends on the initial division of the picture plane into shape and value.
It is relatively easy to transfer shapes from the thumbnail sketch to the paper and to maintain their shapes.
But Getting The Same Values In A Painting Is Difficult
It is often difficult to maintain the values – especially the darker ones – in paint.
If you have started with a value sketch, it is easy to use a smartphone or digital camera to check the values in your painting to insure you have what you planned.
The color study in this painting lesson began as one of three sketches created in Value Sketching – Basic Ideas and Techniques. If you want to follow along in this video, you’ll need to complete that lesson first. Click the link above or below to see that video.
