Paint A Modern Sofa With Texture, Light & Form

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • How to use sedimentary paints to represent texture
  • Using a methodical, layered approach to build value
  • Represent form by creating light and shadow effects

About This Lesson

This is an easy intro on the topic of painting furniture.  The subject is a modern sofa, with simple shape and without decoration or ornamentation.  This makes it easy to draw and simplifies the various lit and shadowed faces.

One focus of the lesson is texture. Certain watercolor paints are ‘sedimentary’. Their relatively large pigment particles are evident in washes which creates a subtle representation of texture that is useful for any fabric covered object.
